Tom pulled on his clothes. He opened the door and let John out. “I want to see you again. This can’t be the last time. Tell me you’ll find me again. You have to be a member here. Why wait for a masquerade party to approach me? Do you work here, is that it?”
John slipped his hand along Tom’s jaw. He kissed Tom softly. “I don’t work here, but you have met me without the mask. I’ll find you again. I can’t resist you.” He walked away leaving Tom in the storeroom to finish dressing.
A mix of emotions tumbled in Tom’s heart. He made sure he was presentable and then left the storeroom. He went back behind the bar. The music thumped, the crowd swayed. People laughed and pressed against each other. Couples kissed. The swirling lights picked out the brilliant colors in foil masks. Tom served drinks, but the whole time he searched the room with hungry eyes for the man in the black velvet mask who’d just given him so much pleasure.
