Behind the Title with #gay #scifi #fantasy The Dreamboat #MMromance from @parr_books @evernightpub and read bonus snippets from gay #scifi #suspense String of Pearls

This week's Behind the Title comes from,

The Dreamboat

Chapter Two

One year later

Indigo Vaughn stared down at the lights of the city far below. His sky barge, the Dreamboat, sailed majestically and wonderfully slowly through the night sky. The city and surrounding outer suburbs spread out like a twinkling jeweled carpet. Indigo sighed as his imagination took flight, and he dreamed up a beautiful man waiting there just for him. He will be muscled and tall, and have eyes that remind me of the deep blue sea off the coast of my Celtic home.

He drew in a ragged breath. The pain in remembering the far away and long ago place hit him like a spear in his heart. He forced himself on. I will twist my fingers in his night-dark hair and drag him to my kiss. His sexy lips will taste better than the sweetest wine, and once I have kissed him he’ll be mine forever. Indigo rested his forehead on the special glass of the window. He closed his eyes. He didn’t expect ever to meet this dream man. He’d lived for so long without romantic love he sometimes wondered how much longer he could withstand the crushing sadness of his empty life.

Indigo conjured the dreams of his clients, producing the spell for what they craved on the Dreamboat. Sometimes they lived their dream for the rest of their lives. Sometimes they simply fucked up the chance he gave them. Indigo opened his eyes and saw that the sky barge was over one of the huge lakes on the outskirts of the city.

Is it my eternal curse never to conjure my own dream? I shouldn’t torture myself. Perhaps this is my destiny, but a long life without love is no life at all.

He saw movement on the surface of the lake. Water boats crisscrossed the placid surface. Indigo left the window, exited his private quarters, and walked with all the grace he could muster to the consulting room. Two clients awaited him that night.

His assistant, Milan, greeted him as he entered the anteroom.

“Good evening, sir. The first of your clients is prepared.”

Indigo bestowed a grateful smile on Milan. “Thank you. I’ve read her request document and this won’t take long.”

He took a deep breath before he went into the consulting room. “Let nothing go wrong.” He always said this. It was his mantra to ward off anything bad, because Indigo, even after centuries, had never taken his magic for granted.

Gorgeous, powerful warlock, Indigo Vaughn, sells his magic spells to people looking to make a dream come true. One night, as he gazes down on the city below from his sky barge The Dreamboat, he wonders why, in centuries, his own wish for a man to love hasn’t materialized.

Beautiful, sexy, Darian O’Harr has suffered his fair share of misery. He’s a musician and learned long ago to sing for his supper. New to the city, he comes to Indigo seeking a spell that will bring him the love of a handsome man.

Tobias glanced across at his co-pilot as they took the flight path past the string of pearls. Dante had named the linear group of planets a year ago and now Tobias always thought of them that way, particularly as he’d met the love of his life on one of them.

Dreft engaged light speed and they zapped to the edge of the galaxy to a world where their queen’s new betrothed awaited them.

“It’s been a year, Dreft, my love. We could easily visit Garrus and see your parents before we pick up this guy.”

Dreft shook his head. “I know you think I should. I know you don’t understand why I can’t. I’ve messaged them. I’ve exchanged photographs and accepted their gifts, but I can’t be the crown prince they want me to be.”

The story is set in the same SciFi fantasy city as last year’s release, The Dreamboat. Indigo Vaughn, the warlock head of security, features in the story along with a new cast of characters. When I wrote The Dreamboat, I already had the new characters in my head along with their story. Tobias Mars and Dante Pepper, the elite space pilots for the royal court, very nearly made an appearance in The Dreamboat, but because that story is about Indigo at last finding love, I decided they needed their own story. Once upon a time Dante and Tobias were close to becoming lovers, but Dante met Viridian and fell in love. Tobias has yet to meet his love when String of Pearls, opens. He’s a man of high integrity, handsome, caring, but also longing for love and sex. String of Pearls is his love story.

 String of Pearls

Handsome, elite space pilot, Tobias Mars is completing a special mission, when on a water planet, recently ravaged by space pirates, he discovers Dreft Hann hiding and injured in the sand dunes. There’s instant attraction between the two men, but honorable Tobias believes the fact Dreft is in his care precludes him from showing his growing love for the young man. What’s worse is his shocking discovery of Dreft’s real identity. Even so, Tobias can’t deny his feelings for Dreft. When head of royal security, powerful warlock, Indigo Vaughn discovers Dreft’s secret, he anticipates trouble. As beautiful Dreft falls in love with Tobias and dreams of joining the elite pilot squad, trouble is brewing from someone in Dreft’s past. Will love finally win with so many obstacles in Tobias and Dreft’s path?

I’d written a passage for String of Pearls that was to go right at the beginning of the story, but after discussing it with my editor we decided to leave it out because it detracted from the impact of the opening where we meet Dreft fleeing from space pirates.

Here it is.

Tobias Mars glanced across at his co-pilot, Dante Pepper with a grin. “Hey, look at it this way, it might be a nuisance, but on the way something great might happen.”

“Such as?” Dante frowned as he set the craft on course for Garrus.

“Well as we touch down on each planet we’re greeted with gorgeous guys offering refreshments.” Tobias laughed aloud as the craft soared into the sky.

A derisive grunt escaped Dante. “Viridian Kaa is the only gorgeous guy I want greeting me.”

“You’re lucky to have found love, Dante. I’m glad for you.” The craft shot into the stars and Tobias engaged the autopilot. “At least we only have to planet hop on the way back with the package. Why so much subterfuge is my question?”

Dante’s voice dropped to a whisper. “The royal prince is afraid of assassins.”

An early morning mist shrouded Garrus as they landed and took their passenger on board their craft. The prince, fondly known by the pilots as, the package, in keeping with the subterfuge surrounding the journey home, settled into his quarters.

Tobias stomped through the palace grounds. He pushed away his sexual needs as he walked around the rose garden three times and then he gave in. He exited the compound by the south gate and hailed a hire skeeter as it cruised by at the height of the castle walls.

The pilot dropped him on the sidewalk outside Temptations with a grin.
“Have a good night, sir.” He handed back Tobias’s currency-card having scanned it and taken the required fare.

Tobias nodded and slipped the card into his jacket pocket. “Thanks.” He strode into Temptations before he found an excuse not to. One of the hosts approached him.

“Good evening, Tobias Mars. It’s been some time since your last visit. What can I do for you?”

Temptations ranged over three floors and spread far along the riverbank. A pastel-colored building, elegant and turreted, it housed a nightclub for dancing, bars, a restaurant, and private rooms where customers could indulge in glorious sex with whoever they chose, man, men, woman or women. Renowned for excellent customer service, discretion, cleanliness, and fun, there wasn’t a more high-class establishment in this part of the galaxy than Temptations.

Tobias forced a smile onto his face. Even if this host remembered him, he had no idea who the man was. “Good evening. Yes. I’ve been busy. I’d like a companion, or two, for the night. Male, pretty—”

The host’s expression held nothing but acceptance. “Duet is available. I’ll show you to a room.”

Tobias followed the host up the wide, curved staircase that led to the rooms. Strains of music followed him as the double doors to the dance club opened and closed when customers left.

Inside an opulent room, the host poured fruit wine from a chilled carafe and handed it to Tobias. “Have a relaxing night, sir. Duet will be along right away.” He left Tobias standing in the middle of the room.

A summer night breeze lifted the hems of the sheer drapes from the tall windows in small undulations. The many soft lights scattered around the room sent a comforting glow over a huge, low bed adorned with a white sheet. By the bed stood a table holding the cold wine, decorated boxes that Tobias knew from past experience held satin soft paper tissues, condoms, sex toys, lube in colored gel packs and herbal concoctions designed to prolong pleasure.
He placed the wine glass on the table.

A whisper of air as the door opened and closed alerted him to Duet’s arrival. He spun around, suddenly self-conscious and worried because he hadn’t been with a man for so long and now here were two.

The men wore nothing but wonderful colored face paint. Their jet-black hair fell down their backs in thick braids, their eyes, made even more blue by the blue color on their eyelids, sparkled like a tropical sky blue ocean.

Tobias gazed on their beauty and savored their hard-muscled bodies. He followed the V of their hips and his breath caught as his eyes traced their huge erections, the tips of their cocks bobbing against flat stomachs as they came to him.

Tobias closed his eyes as one of them slipped cool strong hands around his face and kissed him. The kiss woke his cock and he sighed as the other man opened his pants and pulled them down his thighs freeing his aching, rock-hard dick. He pulled back from the kiss. “I won’t last long the first time,” he murmured his concern.

Tobias Mars gazed at Dreft lying on top of the bed in room ten of the infirmary. Hari’s treatment had worked wonders and not only on Dreft’s wounds. Hari had cleaned Dreft up. His hair, now a dirt-free glossy hazelnut brown was brushed back to show off the handsome planes of his face. Hari had replaced Dreft’s strange boy-like clothes with the infirmary’s grey cotton pants and t-shirt. The man was, as his colleague, Dante, put it, deliciously pretty. For a fleeting moment, Tobias wondered what it would be like to kiss those perfect lips and hold that muscular body to his own. He shook the thought away.

Dreft opened his eyes and a shy smile spread on his mouth. As Tobias neared him, he shuffled up the bed to sit. “Thank you so much for helping me, sir.”

Tobias pulled a chair beside the bed and sat. “My name’s Tobias, Tobias Mars—no need to call me sir. How are you feeling?”

The handsome man’s eyes held gratitude. “I’m so much better. Thank you. I noticed the insignia on your jacket, sir.”

Tobias grinned as his fingers went to trace the gold and blue embroidered crest. “I’m one of the queen’s pilot explorers. I guess you could call us the elite unit. All the same, call me Tobias. I’d like that.”

String of Pearls

Tobias Mars gazed at Dreft lying on top of the bed in room ten of the infirmary. Hari’s treatment had worked wonders and not only on Dreft’s wounds. Hari had cleaned Dreft up. His hair, now a dirt free glossy almond brown was brushed back to show off the handsome planes of his face. Hari had replaced Dreft’s strange boy-like clothes with the infirmary’s grey cotton pants and t-shirt. The man was, as his colleague, Dante, put it, deliciously pretty. For a fleeting moment, Tobias wondered what it would be like to kiss the perfect lips and hold the muscular body to his own. He shook the thought away.

Tobias grinned as his fingers went to trace the gold and blue embroidered crest. “I’m one of the queen’s pilot explorers. I guess you could call us the elite unit. All the same, call me Tobias. I’d like that.”

“I’ve heard that you have to be aristocracy to be chosen for the unit. Is that true?”

A little frown creased between Tobias’s eyes. “Have you? Where’d you hear that?” A spike of worry prevented him from answering with the truth. His intense security training from the warlock Indigo Vaughn threw a question into his mind. Could Dreft be a rival court’s spy or even assassin?

“I heard a lot of things during my years as a slave. Sorry. I mean no harm.” Dreft’s voice held anxiety. His blue eyes clouded.

A wave of kindness softened Tobias’s look and tone. “How long were you a slave?” He remembered Hari’s description of the scars on Dreft’s back.

Sadness passed in Dreft’s eyes. “Four years—I’ve been a slave since I was stolen from my home when I was eighteen. I, I’d become desperate, hence the leap from the ship when we cruised low to take the water from the lake on the planet where you rescued me.” His voice cracked a little.

Tobias was sure fear replaced the sadness in the young man’s eyes. He lightened the mood. “Hey, are you hungry? I bet Hari hasn’t given you breakfast and I’ve not eaten yet. Do you feel up to a little walk? My home isn’t far. I have loads of food—fruit, pancakes, savory pastries, and coffee. What do you say?”
Dreft gave him the most endearing look. “I’m very hungry.”

Tobias stood and pushed the chair away from the bed. He held out his arm for Dreft to take and helped him stand. “Hang on. You have no shoes.” Tobias left Dreft perched on the side of the bed. He went to the closet inset in the end of the wall and brought back a pair of felt slip-ons for Dreft.

Dreft pushed his feet into them. “Thank you. I think the medicA threw away what I was wearing.”

“Hari is the best medicA available. I trust him implicitly, but he’s a hygiene fanatic. He probably burned what you were dressed in.” Tobias laughed.
