Aaron stirred the soup and hummed, aware he was a little off key but not caring. No one was home, and his husband, Jason, said he liked Aaron’s not-quite-on-pitch humming because, according to Jason, it was “resonant and heartfelt.”

He was humming a song from the musical they’d seen about three months ago. It had been Jason’s birthday present for Aaron, and even though his birthday was in December, this musical was the one they both wanted to see.

Aaron’s last five presents for Jason had all been paintings. The walls of their bedroom were almost full. The last painting had been of Jason’s entire family, from his oldest brother, Christopher, all the way down to his youngest sibling.

Anniversaries got paintings. Birthdays got paintings. Aaron would have felt guilty about not being able to give more than his art except Jason honestly seemed to love each one. His delight was infectious, and Aaron was already planning what to paint him for their ten-year anniversary, which was coming up at the end of this year.

The kitchen was full of the smell of baking bread and bean soup. Aaron’s mouth watered as he idly stirred the soup to keep the beans near the bottom of the pot from burning. Jason should be home in a few minutes and then they could eat.

The front door to their little apartment they shared with another couple burst open, and Jason literally waltzed in, turning and holding his hands out as if he was dancing with an invisible partner. He was singing “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” at close to full volume. Unlike Aaron’s humming, Jason was always perfectly on pitch.

Having Jason come in singing was slightly unusual, but dancing was another level of strange. Aaron found himself grinning in anticipation of something wonderful. He didn’t interrupt Jason’s song to ask and when Jason caught him by the waist and pulled him into the dance, he fell into easy step. They waltzed around the small kitchen, Jason leading.

When his husband stopped singing, they continued to dance. Aaron started to ask what had put such a spring in Jason’s step, but Jason kissed him, and Aaron went weak at the knees. He opened his mouth to Jason’s tongue, letting his lover explore. Jason tasted of coffee and something sweet, not quite chocolate.

There was a bubbling sound and Aaron turned toward the stove to stir the soup, having to let go of his lover to do so. He stirred and then tasted the concoction. It was excellent, if he did say so himself. He’d settled into cooking for the four of them: himself, Jason, and the couple they lived with. He’d been doing it for over nine years and his skills had improved.

Jason stepped up behind him and hugged him, resting his chin on Aaron’s shoulder. He smelled incredibly good, like summer heat and subtle cologne almost overshadowed by his shampoo. He smelled like Jason.

Like home.

“So?” Aaron asked as he turned off the burner under the pot. “What’s happened?”

“I got offered a job.”

Aaron frowned in confusion. He twisted in the circle of Jason’s arms and lifted his head slightly so he could meet Jason’s hazel eyed gaze. “But you love your middle school students. That’s not something every teacher can say.”

“Don’t you even want to hear where the job is?”

Still frowning, Aaron nodded.

“I’ve been offered a job in Colton, Pennsylvania.”

Aaron’s heartbeat picked up. Colton was the college town nearest to Marisburg. But then his excitement died. “You can’t take a lower paying job just to make me happy.”

“Who said it’s a lower paying job? I’m being offered the position as head of the math department at Colton University.”

Aaron gaped. “When did you apply?”

“I didn’t. Nearest I can figure is someone here works in Pennsylvania, or vice versa. Someone I know, maybe, or someone who’s…” He shrugged and a little of his enthusiasm faded. “Does it matter?”

Inside the cockpit, Captain Paul Miller is always in control. But on the ground, he constantly feels adrift. His marriage is crumbling, and life has become much too complicated.

Jamey Conley has worked hard to make his cafĂ© in the Frisco airport a successful venture. He loves his work – and especially the airport scenery. He goes gaga over guys in uniform, but when he meets Paul, sparks really fly. Too bad his ideal man is married -- and straight.

“Paul?” Jamey came running up. “My friend called. He can’t make it. Can I share a taxi with you?”

Almost as if it were fate, a cab pulled up at that very moment.

No! “Sure.”

Paul slid across the leather seat, and Jamey followed him inside.

The driver turned sideways, and looked over his shoulder. “Where to?”

“Gateway Suites,” Paul said.

The cabbie nodded, and started to turn away.

“Wait.” Paul looked at Jamey. “Tell him where you’re going.”

“Gateway Suites.”

“No.” Paul shook his head. “No, he’s not going there. No.”

“I’m going to the Gateway,” Jamey insisted.

The driver snorted derisively. “I’m not getting in the middle of a lover’s quarrel. You wanna get out here, or go to the Gateway?”

“The Gateway,” Jamey said.

Paul swore under his breath. The cab pulled away from the curb.

Paul tried to keep his voice low. “What kind of game are you playing?”

“I don’t play games, Paul.”

“Then stop acting like a kid,” Paul said in a hoarse whisper. “I don’t want to fuck you.”

Jamey’s eyebrows shot up, and hid themselves under a lock of caramel hair. “Who said anything about fucking?”

The driver turned with a big grin on his face.

“Keep your eyes on the road,” Paul yelled, before facing Jamey. “Damn it, keep your voice down.”

“But now that you mention it…” Jamey cupped Paul’s crotch, and rubbed.

Paul intended to push him away, but Jamey’s lips were so close to his. One heated look and they both knew what was coming. Their lips met as if magnetized and it was magic.

Jamey’s mouth was so warm, so soft, much softer than Paul had imagined, and he opened his mouth with a low moan. Jamey slipped his tongue inside. It was just like the movies. Time stopped. Everything disappeared, even the nosy driver. It was just him and Jamey. Until they pulled apart.

Paul sighed. He drew back and studied Jamey’s face. Jamey stared back, his feelings showed plainly on his face. He was thrilled beyond words to be the recipient of Paul’s affection.

Damn, damn, damn. Paul was completely unprepared for the feelings that kiss stirred in him, but he couldn’t bring himself to admit it. He feigned a disgusted look and shook his head. “Sorry, Jamey. I had too much to drink tonight. You’re a great guy, but I’m not gay.”

Jamey’s happy expression faded. “You know what I think, Paul?” Jamey moved away. “I think you’re lying. To me. And most of all to yourself.” Jamey tapped the driver on the shoulder. “Take me to Dartmouth Street please.”

Can Kaea and Xavier find a way to work together to avenge those who were taken from them #MMromance #shifter Read a #teaser from @maiadylanauthor and @evernightpub

HIS TO PROTECT – An Alpha’s Claim, 2
Series: An Alpha’s Claim
Applicable Tags:  Paranormal Romance, M/M, shape-shifter, HEA

BLURB:
Kaea Hemopo was a man on a mission. He planned to kill the bastard who killed his grandmother, and nothing was going to stop him. He had the man lined up in his sights, his finger on the trigger, and was prepared to die to get it done, but then Kaea found out that he was following the wrong man.

Xavier Mulligan had been stalking his own prey the night he met his mate. He’d been shocked to discover that Kaea was not only there to kill him, but thought he was the asshole who’d murdered his own father. Xavier would just have to make his mate see him for what he was, and accept his very nature. How hard could that be?

Can Kaea and Xavier find a way to work together to avenge those who were taken from them, and retrieve that which was stolen from Kaea’s family, or will Xavier’s need for control be the one thing that could tear them both apart?

**M/M, anal penetration, erotic romance, paranormal, shape-shifter

STORY EXCERPT:
Kaea moved a little beneath him, and Xavier had to bite back a groan as his hips nestled a little closer to his.
“Do you—wait, am I naked?” Kaea asked incredulously, and Xavier couldn’t hold back a grin.
“That you are, my lovely. You were damp and dirty from being out in the forest and trying to kill me. I couldn’t very well pop you into bed like that, now could I?”
Kaea frowned as he leaned slightly to the side and looked at Xavier lying on top of him. “And you’re naked because…”
“I was in the shower.” Xavier shrugged. “Again, not somewhere where clothes are necessarily all that helpful. I came out of the bathroom when you woke up. Didn’t have time to go throw any clothes on.”
Kaea nodded, and a delicious red heat swept over the dark skin of his cheeks. “That makes sense, but you could let me go, get up and throw some clothes on now that I no longer want to hurt you, right?”
“But I like it where I am. Do I gotta?” Xavier had never pouted in his life, but he tried in this moment just to have fun with his mate.
Kaea’s laughter was quick and genuine, and had Xavier’s heart doing strange somersaults inside him. “Yes, you do. Come on, it’s very distracting having you lying on top of me.”
Xavier grinned, and knew it was just as wicked as he felt. “I love that you find me distracting, love, because the feeling is most definitely mutual.” Kaea’s eyes darkened, and Xavier knew he liked that particular revelation. “But, you’re right. I’m hungry, and healing this gunshot wound I seemed to have acquired recently has taken a lot of energy.”
Xavier pushed up from the bed, and grinned when he watched Kaea’s gaze wander down his abdomen, but shot back to the puckered scar of the wound on his shoulder. “Crap. Did I apologize for shooting you?”
Xavier resettled the towel around his hips. “No, you did not, and that was very remiss of you. I’ll expect you to make that up to me very soon. Repeatedly.”
Kaea’s soft laughter followed him as he stepped toward the back of the room where he’d put his bag. He grabbed a pair of sweats and pulled them on under the towel, then dropped it to the floor. He turned back toward the bed and laughed himself when he saw Kaea up on his elbows as if to get a better view.
“See something you might like, love?”
Kaea grinned at him, and Xavier could have sworn he felt his heart stutter in his chest. “Maybe, but I’m not a man who gives all his secrets away when he’s just met a man. I prefer a slow build up to a quick flash that’s over too damn soon.” Xavier scowled. “What’s put that look on your face?”
“I don’t like to think of you with other men.” Xavier heard the possessiveness in his own tone, but wouldn’t apologize for it. He was a dominant Alpha bear, and one who did not play well with others. Kaea needed to know and understand that. “I don’t share. You’re mine.”
Kaea arched a sardonic brow in his direction, and it irritated and aroused him at the same time. “Yours?” Xavier could practically feel the temperature in the room fall. “I don’t remember ever being asked if I’d be yours, or even if I wanted you. You presume too much.”
Xavier growled, his anger rising within him. “It’s not a presumption when I could feel your fucking arousal just as sure as you could feel mine, Kaea.”

After a heady night of love, Josh is devastated when Will turns out to be a millionaire. #MMromance #midweektease

This week's #midweektease #MWTease excerpt is from
A Forever Kind of Thing

Businessman Will has hoped to meet musician Josh for so long, he’s astonished and elated when Josh finally notices and pursues him at one of the band’s gigs.
After a heady night of love, Josh is devastated when Will turns out to be a millionaire. He’s not a hustler. He couldn’t take and he couldn’t compete. He retreats into his music.
Will is sure they could have something special and tries to prove his love for Josh in the only way he knows how. Trouble is—it’s the wrong way.
Josh is shocked to discover he can’t forget Will.
They want each other. Their chemistry is scorching. Their encounters erotic.
But Josh is running in the opposite direction as Will longs to love him.
Can love triumph?

Read the teaser
The server arrived at the table.

Will waited for Joshua to order what appeared to be a favorite because he didn’t even look at the menu. Will asked for the same as Joshua. He could eat a burger any day.

Joshua grinned at him as the server walked away.

“Sorry, the food probably isn’t what you’re used to.”

Amused, Will laughed. “Hey, I wasn’t born wealthy. I love burgers. I don’t do fine dining that often, in fact.”

“Tell me how long it took you to make it ... really make it, so that money wasn’t a worry any more.”

Will considered his answer to Joshua’s question for a few moments. He moved his water glass around on the table as he wondered if he should mention having lost track of Joshua and sunk his unhappiness into work during that time. He decided against it. Joshua already knew he’d attended almost every gig the band played.

“I was lucky. Just at the right time, I had my idea for a sports shoe. The design needed a special sole and shape. I knew a science graduate and we teamed up to make the prototype. His dad knew a couple of big name sports stars, having grown up around their families, and they tried out the shoes for us. Their endorsement got us funding from the banks. We’d had financial help from my friend’s dad before that. Then suddenly we were in business, and everything just went ahead.
Success was like a runaway train zooming along no matter what we did. We’d what you might call, ‘made it,’ within a year. I worked hard, though, and still do. We both did, but a lot of it was initial luck—the right product at the right time. Life smiled on us.” He pushed his hand across the table toward Joshua’s arm as Josh rested there listening. The desire to touch Joshua burned in him. A sigh escaped him as he stopped with his fingertips not even brushing Josh’s shirtsleeve.

Joshua’s eyes filled with tenderness as he saw Will’s gesture. He looked away and gazed out across the river for a few moments before he spoke again.
“Music isn’t so easy. It’s the visibility. Like all art, it’s hard to locate your audience, and their regard is always subjective. Fans sometimes turn on you, because you’ve tried a new way of arranging or tried a different music genre.”

Will wished he could help. It was on the tip of his tongue to offer something, but he bit it back, knowing that Joshua might spook. Instead, he remembered the box sitting on the chair next to him. “Joshua, I brought something for you.” He picked up the box and stood to put it on the table in front of Joshua.

Will hadn’t even sat down again when Joshua’s exclamation unnerved him.

“Will, you can’t do this.” Joshua held up one of the sports shoes that he’d taken from the box. “You can’t give me things...”

Sadness rose in Will as he watched Joshua stuff the shoe back in amongst the brightly colored tissue and jam the lid back on the box.
“They’re your size. I looked when we were together. It’s just a pair of shoes ... the new style going in stores this week. I’m sorry...” He trailed away as Joshua sat resolute across the table.

“I can’t take them. How would you like it if I turned up with a gift today?”

Will gazed at the shoe box and then into Joshua’s eyes. “I wouldn’t have minded. I’d think you loved me. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you.”

Joshua’s voice softened, but he pushed the box toward Will. “I can’t take them,” he repeated.

Will had to put it back on the chair quickly as their order arrived. He sighed heavily as he stared at the burger, bursting with salad. He didn’t feel hungry now. He cast a glance at Joshua.

“Will, I have nothing to give you in return.”

Will slumped as the words hit home. He couldn’t believe how little Joshua thought of himself. “Your presence, your time, your love ... it’s all so much, so perfect, so good. The song you wrote and sang to me ... being with you, it’s the best gift I’ve ever had. I saw the stacks of shoe samples in an office today and it was just a little thought ... ‘I’ll take some to Joshua.’”

Without warning Joshua stood.

Will thought he was leaving, and sadness fell like a stone in his chest, but Joshua pulled his chair to sit beside Will. He didn’t touch Will, but his head was close as he spoke.

“I’m sorry. I guess I’m just prickly about how wealthy you are, and I don’t want anyone ever saying I’m with you for your money.”

Will turned his face to Joshua’s. His heartbeat sped up. Joshua’s breath whispered over Will’s lips, he was so close. I could kiss him. Will looked away as the temptation nearly took over. “Okay.” He had no idea what else to say. He wanted to say, ‘Does that mean eventually we’ll be able to tell people we’re a couple ... does that mean that one day we can be open and shout to the world that we love each other?’

Indigo’s heartbeat hammered as he left Darian standing on the bridge. He passed the small marquee striped with vivid orange and lemon and glanced at the canvas door flapping in the night breeze. He’d checked the tent the first time he’d made his rounds. It had been used to sell cold drinks, and the re-cycle box was full of hard plastic tumblers and glass bottles. The temptation to look back at Darian tugged at him, but he strode on, determined to finish his work and then take pleasure in the hunk’s company. I never expected that … for him to be there … or for him to want me. I hope he wants more than just a quick fuck. He’s so hot, and beautiful. I already want him badly. There was no way I could resist him. That kiss was delicious. Stars, my cock’s aching. Maybe he stopped me in my spell because he’s attracted to me. Maybe he saw the relentless desperate longing in my eyes. A smile spread on Indigo’s lips as he made a little fun of his need for love.

Despite his continual checking of the time, the rest of the night’s work flew by and Indigo made his way to his skeeter. He saw Darian standing at the entrance to the skeeter park. His heart gave a huge thud in his chest and then beat so fast Indigo was out of breath when he came to a halt beside his intended lover.

Darian’s happy smile of greeting brought an instinctive smile to Indigo’s lips in response.
“You’re here.” Darian’s low voice sent thrills of pleasure coursing over Indigo’s stomach.

“Yes, of course.” Indigo couldn’t say more. A surge of desire for hunky Darian made him bizarrely nervous. He stood before the man he’d craved at first sight.

Darian gazed at him with eyes reflecting lust and admiration. “I want you to know before you take me to the Dreamboat, I’m inexperienced and it’s been some time since I did this.”

Tenderness in his voice, Indigo tried to reassure Darian. “I’ll enjoy your company no matter what.”

Darian’s dark blue gaze traveled down Indigo’s body and rested for long moments on the growing bulge in his pants. “The kiss on the bridge took my breath away. I can’t wait to hold you naked in my arms.”

Indigo’s cock hardened even more and he whispered, “Then we both feel the same. Come on, let’s get out of here.”

Darian strode alongside him to the skeeter.

Indigo unlocked it with a wave of his hand and the doors lifted.

“Hop in, Darian.” Happiness rose as he said the name. He smiled to himself as he sat in the pilot’s seat and closed the doors. That felt right, as if we’re together … long-term lovers. I’d like that … very much.

Matt’s entire body reacted to the low, halting tones of the man’s voice. Relief and fear flooded him. He sent a silent request into the ether, which generally fed him premonitions. Don’t let me mess this up. He straightened and faced the man taking in every facet—pale green eyes, like the shallow water lapping at a tropical beach, the sort of handsome face that usually carried guys into a modeling career, and wavy dark hair that Matt itched to run his fingers through. His stomach clenched and a strange melting feeling gathered between his legs. Fucking hell, he’s amazing.

Best Worst Ever @LDBlakeley #MMRomance #ContemporaryRomance rerelease #teaser

Thanks for having me on today to tell you about Best Worst Ever. This story was my very first to be published so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I recently had my rights reverted, and knew I didn't want this novella to simply fade away. So I decided to give my boys a bit of a spruce-up. I redid the cover art, revised and edited the story and made it available once more. I hope you enjoy. :-)

Carey English spends his days planning extravagant parties and lavish weddings and generally making people’s lives brighter. He spends his nights wishing for a man he doesn’t have to share and who won’t try to drag him back into the closet. It doesn’t help that the man he wants most doesn’t need a closet to begin with — his straight best friend, Sky.

Skyler Wood has been dumped — again — just days before the holiday season, leaving him with an ex-fiancĂ©e, a nonrefundable New Year’s Eve getaway rental, and nothing to ring in the New Year but a broken heart. For Carey, rushing off to offer Sky a shoulder will either be the best decision he’s ever made—or it will lead to the worst heartbreak he’s ever experienced.

TEASER

BEST WORST EVER - L.D. BLAKELEYIf there was one thing he knew about Sky, it was that he was as frugal as the day was long. And, judging by the other places he’d passed along the way, he was guessing the impressive exterior of this place matched a rather swanky, if not romantic, interior. Of course, idiot. Sky had rented the place thinking he’d be with his fiancĂ©e. Not his best friend.

He parked next to his friend’s SUV and stubbornly grabbed more than he could carry at once. Why make two trips when you can do it in one? Necessity might be the mother of invention, but laziness was definitely its big, bad daddy. Laden down with a suitcase and far too many bags of food and liquor, Carey used the toe of his boot to gently knock at the front door. “Sky? You in there? My hands are full, man, come open the door.” When there was no response, he tried again with the tip of his boot. “Mr. Darcy, are—”

His sentence was cut short as the door flew open. “Jesus! Hold your horses, Logan. I couldn’t hear you with the water running. I was just in the…”

Shower. He’d been in the shower. Carey knew this, not because he suddenly had the ability to read minds. Oh, no. He knew this because there, in front of him, stood all six foot four inches of Darcy Skyler Wood… dripping wet with nothing but a towel slung low around his hips. Shit.

Don’t stare. Don’t stare at that solitary drop of water as it slowly slides its way between the hard, flat planes of those perfect pecs. And for the love of all that’s holy, do not stare at anything even remotely near the edge of that towel! But Carey never was any good at taking orders.

Angel shifted in his arms. “Tell me all about yourself, Matt.” He settled against Matt’s body wanting to share information that might bind them together. There was something so right about this encounter.

“I never know what to tell people when they say that. Ask me questions, instead.”

“I get that. I’m the same. I looked in my brother’s studio and there was nothing—no preliminary sketches, no photographs, no sign of an impending work. What do you make of that since you came here to work with him?”

Matt shuffled along the bed to look into Angel’s eyes. “He must have already taken everything to the exhibition space. We have a studio booked in the art complex to work on the sculpture. Why do you ask? I am legit. I’m not spinning you some story to get you in bed.”

Angel ran his hand along Matt’s shoulder. “Hell, that’s not what I meant at all. I wondered if maybe, because he’d been ill, he’d not been working. I have no doubt you’re legit. I’m sorry. That wasn’t a question about your integrity. Tell me about your work.”

“He was ill? There was no hint of that in the correspondence. I’m sorry to hear it. As for my work, I recently ventured into what’s fondly termed social comment sculpture. Your brother and I were going to make a street scene using photographs I’ve taken as inspiration. I usually paint.”

Angel watched the play of emotion in Matt’s eyes. He waited until Matt finished the sentence and then kissed him.
